Detailed Itinerary: 8 Days Tanzania Bird Watching Safari

Day 1.

Arrival Day

Distance: 50 km

Driving Time: 1 hour

On arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport JRO meet our representative & transfer to Mount Meru Game lodge & Sanctuary lose to Arusha National Park for dinner & overnight. Later our safari manager will come for detailed   briefing  before leaving you to enjoy some bird life around the lodge & lodge’s facilities

Day 2.

Arusha National Park

Distance: 8 km

Non – game viewing time: 15 min

After early breakfast drive to Arusha National Park for Bird watching. Arusha National Park is a biosphere & Nature reserve, the big area is covered by forest & Mount Meru bird life is abundant for both forest & aquatic birds which includes the flamingos. Momella Lakes is one of Tanzania’s Ramsa site where flamingos & most of aquatic bird feed on algae that flourishing in this alkaline Lakes. Spot many forest birds which will include herons, wavers, flamingos, ducks etc. In the afternoon drive out & to Tarangire area for dinner, campfire & overnight.

Day 3:

Full Day Bird Watching at Tarangire National Park

As early as you wish depart the camp for an early morning Bird watching in Tarangire National Park then return back to the camp for full breakfast & some rest. Embark on your afternoon & sunset bird watching,

Tarangire is the fifth largest National Park in Tanzania endowed with beautiful landscapes & vegetation which include acacia woodland, fig trees, red mahogany & majestic baobab trees which dwarfing some animal species that cometh beneath it. Tarangire River the only permanent water source, giant baobab trees & huge elephant population are among the main features of this park. The park is home to over 400 bird species which include starlings, weavers, hamerkop, red & yellow barbet, violet tipped course, black kite, orange bellied parrot, greater honey guide, brown snake eagle, saddle billed stork etc.

Three rare animal species are inhabiting this park which include the greater kudu, fringed-eared oryx & the Ash staling.  Late afternoon drive to Marera Valley Lodge at Ngorongoro highlands for dinner, campfire & overnight.

Day 4:

Tarangire – Serengeti National Park

After breakfast depart for Serengeti National Park, the drive is along the high lying farmland of Karatu all the way to Ngorongoro gate, with en-route Bird watching drive up to Ngorongoro view point & around the crater rim then down to the world rich Serengeti National Park & check in at Nabi Hills gate. Afternoon & sunset bird watching at the endless rolling plains of Serengeti. Spot the Great Wildebeest Migration & the big cats (depending on traveling dates).

You may expect to spot Brown parrot, Kori bustard, Grey breasted spurfowl, Bare faced go away, Secretary bird, Red throated tit, Nubian vulture, Ruppel vulture, Lilac breasted roller, Von der Dicken’s Hornbill etc. Late afternoon during sunset drive to Tanzania Bush Camp at central Serengeti for dinner campfire & overnight.

Day 5:

Full Day Bird watching in Serengeti

As early as you wish depart the camp for an earl morning Tanzania Bird Watching safari in the vast Serengeti plains, sport more birds in this morning & if lucky you may also sport cat family on the road as they try to avoid morning mist. Late morning return to the camp for full breakfast & some rest before hot lunch. Then sunset game drive to spot more wildlife. Late afternoon drive to the lodge for dinner, campfire & overnight.

Day 6:

Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater

After Breakfast depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area with en-route bird watching, then descent over 600 meters high walls into the Crater flow for wonderful bird watching where you may expect to spot Avocet, Red knobbed coot, Grey caped warbler, Mountain greenbul, Dusky flycatcher, Paradise flycatcher, Black kite, Augur buzzard, Black saw wing, Anteater chat, Red ramped swallow, Tropical bulbul, Schawlow’s Turaco, Montane nightjar, Golden winged sunbird, Greater & Lesser flamingos etc.

Enjoy your picnic lunch inside the Crater flow before embark on your animal & bird watching. Late afternoon drive out & to Migombani Public Campsite & Lodge for dinner, campfire & overnight.

Day 7:

 Ngorongoro – Lake Manyara – Arusha

After breakfast as early as you wish drive to Lake Manyara National Park for best bird watching along the Lake & the forest. Lake Manyara is small beautiful ever green park in Northern Tanzania with overlapping habitats which attract large number of birds & mammals. The varied habitats & its dramatically location has a high diversity of aquatic & terrestrial birds which include Lilac breasted roller, Chestnut banded plover, Rough breasted roller, Dusky turtle dove, Egyptian vulture, Palm nut vulture, Spur winged plover, Purple crested Turaco, Taita fiscal, Ground horn bill, Black winged stilt, Crested Guinea fowl, countless number of Great & Lesser flamingos etc.

Packed lunch will be served in one of the picnic site inside the park before proceed with afternoon animal & bird watching, if luck you can spot the famous Lake Manyara tree climbing lion. Late afternoon drive to Arusha & to Moshono Hill Side Lodge for Dinner & overnight.

Day 8:

Departure Transfer

After breakfast & depending on your flight time, transfer to Kilimanjaro international airport for departure if going back home or to Arusha airport if going to Zanzibar for beach extension
